Gathering of Japan-R.O.K. Cabinet Ministers

November 20, 1998

  1. The Governments of Japan and the R.O.K. will hold a Gathering of Ministers of both countries and related events on November 28 (Sat.) and 29 (Sun.) in Kagoshima.

  2. The gathering aims at strengthening the dialogue between the two countries, which was stipulated in the Japan-R.O.K. Joint Declaration signed by the two leaders when Mr. Kim Dae-jung, President of the R.O.K., visited Japan. This year has seen the 400th anniversary of the introduction of Korean pottery (now called Satsuma ware) into Kagoshima Prefecture, where a long and rich history of exchanges between the two countries is still alive. Bilateral relations are expected to be further strengthened as Cabinet members of the two countries conduct free and candid exchanges of views in Kagoshima and attend cultural events related to the anniversary.

  3. The forthcoming gathering will be attended by Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers and other Cabinet members of the two countries.
