Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations of the Foreign Ministry on the Terrorist Bombing in Jerusalem

November 6, 1998

  1. The Government of Japan received the report with great anger and deep sadness that fatalities and injuries were inflicted on innocent civilians by a terrorist bombing in Jerusalem on November 6. Japan expresses its deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the citizens of Israel, and heartfelt sympathy to the injured.

  2. Terrorism can not be justified for any reason, nor does it resolve any problems. We should resolutely fight against such cowardly and contemptible acts.

  3. Japan strongly hopes that the parties involved in the peace process will not succumb to the pressure of terrorism, make efforts to strengthen the security cooperation, and that they bravely continue their serious efforts to seek peace, including the implementation of the Wye River Agreement.
