On Thursday, July 26, for approximately 30 minutes from 9:45 a.m., The Honorable Thomas E. Donilon, National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. The outline of their meeting is as follows (Attending on the Japanese side were Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tsuyoshi Saito, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Akihisa Nagashima, Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary Chikao Kawai and Deputy Director-General of the North American Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Takeo Akiba among others. Attending on the U.S. side were National Security Council’s Senior Director for Asia Daniel R. Russel, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo Kurt Tong and Commander of the U.S. Forces Japan Sam Angelella, among others).

  1. Prime Minister Noda stated that he would like to promote concrete cooperation in a wide range of fields under “A Shared Vision for the Future” released on the occasion of his visit to the U.S. in April and to further deepen and develop the Japan-U.S. alliance, and requested Mr. Donilon to convey such intentions to President Obama. In response, Mr. Donilon stated that President Obama also considered that the summit meeting in April was very fruitful and that it would be important to steadily implement the outcomes of the meeting through mutual cooperation.

  2. Subsequently, Mr. Donilon shared the results of his preceding visit to China, and both sides exchanged views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

  3. On the deployment of Osprey, Prime Minister Noda requested continued cooperation from the U.S. side regarding provision of accident investigation reports and confirmation of the safety of the aircraft. In response, Mr. Donilon stated that the U.S. Government is willing to provide as much support as possible.
