Hawaii-Okinawa Conference

-Building Collaborative Partnerships toward the 21st Century-

In order to promote the development of Okinawa, it is essential to takeinternational aspects into account. At the Hawaii-Okinawa Conference, leaders and wide range of people from government and private sectors from Hawaii and Okinawa, which share numerous characterstics such as island environment, subtropical climate and tourism industry, will get together and discuss the directions of the mutual cooperation between them. The discussions will especially focus on the areas of Academic and Technological Cooperation, Cooperation on Tourism Development, and Environment and Development Cooperation. During the course of discussions, government officials and various organizations from Okinawa and Hawail will make presentations to share their experience and expertise with each other. Such exchanges will give insight to Okinawa and Hawaii and let them learn from each other. Through fostering the Hawaii-Okinawa partnership, we can expect not onlyto further strengthen U.S.- Japan relations which have been supported byclose personnel exchanges but also to contribute to the development of third countries in future.
