Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial
Event Endorsement Guidelines

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan encourages proposals for a wide range of events celebrating the Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial. Organizers of events endorsed by the Ministry will be entitled to use the official name “Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial” and the centennial logo in all publicity materials including posters, pamphlets, websites, signboards, and banners. Endorsed events will also be listed in the official event calendar of the Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial.
1. Eligibility
- (1) Events should take place in Japan between January 1 and December 31, 2012. For events being held in the United States, the application should be submitted to either the Embassy of Japan (for venues in Washington D.C.) or to the Consulate responsible for the region in which the venue is located. - (2) Events should aim to promote Japan-U.S. relations in various fields, encourage mutual understanding and strengthen friendship between the two countries. Events should not be mainly profit-oriented.
- (3) Proposals for events should be concrete and feasible.
- (4) Events should not advocate any particular principle, ideology or religion. They should not support any political activity or election campaign, nor violate public order or standards of decency.
- (5) Costs must be fully borne by the organizers.
2. How to apply
- (1) Applications should be submitted by either e-mail (with documents scanned as attachments), fax, or mail at least one month prior to events, either to the Embassy of Japan in the United States (for venues in Washington D.C.) or to the Consulate General of Japan responsible for the region in which the venue is located. For events in Japan, please send the application to the First North America Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3. Reminders
- (1) We are unable to return applications, so we recommend you keep a copy for your reference.
- (2) We are unable to reply to inquiries regarding the details of the process by which events are selected for endorsement. We thank you in advance for your understanding.
- (3) Organizers are kindly asked to give written notice in case of changes to or cancellation of events.
