Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to President-elect of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko

On January 11, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent a congratulatory message to President-elect of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, who won the presidential election held in Ukraine on December 26, 2004. The following is an outline of the message, which was sent via the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.

  • Prime Minister Koizumi congratulated President-elect Yushchenko for winning the election.
  • Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his hope that President-elect Yushchenko will overcome the various issues that Ukraine faces, and further promote democratization and the transition to a market economy.
  • Japan intends to support Ukraine's efforts to these ends.
  • Prime Minister Koizumi hopes that further progress will be made in bilateral relations in a wide range of areas.
