Sending an Election Observer to the Macedonian Presidential Election from Japan
April, 2004
- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch a staff member of the Japanese Embassy in Austria (Researcher Mr. Masataka Nakauchi) as an election monitor for the Macedonian presidential election scheduled on Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
- The election will be held due to the passing away of President Boris Trajkovski in an airplane accident in February 2004. It is an important process of promoting reforms based on dialogue towards the construction of a multi-ethnic society in the country after the ethnic conflict in 2001.
- The election will be monitored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and it is likely that as many as 280 election observers from major countries including the United States of America and the European Union (EU) will be dispatched for the monitoring. Considering the significance of the election, the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch an observer as a part of Japan's contribution towards peace and stability in the South-Eastern Europe region.
