Mekong-Japan Exchange Year
Announcement of Official Logo and Catch Line

Official logo and catch line

Designed by Mr. Wataru Komine, the logo describes the year 2009 (09) and Japan and the Mekong region by simply using colors and map. The overlap expresses the exchange between Japan and Mekong.

The catch line, created by Mr. Kazuhisa Kudo, implicates the historic and cultural connections between Japan and the Mekong region countries and the expansive relationship toward the future.

Details of entries and selection process

The Secretariat of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year invited the public to create a logo and catch line. There were 98 entries for the logo and 128 for the catch line from inside and outside of Japan.

The official logo and catch line were chosen by government representatives of Japan and the Mekong region countries at a working-level preparatory meeting of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year held in Bangkok in August 2008.

This logo and catch line will be used commonly in Japan and the Mekong region countries.

To use the logo and catch line

The logo and catch line will be used as the official symbol of Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009.

Organizers that plan to hold events or projects between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 in Japan or Mekong region countries can apply for endorsement of events. Organizers of endorsed events will be entitled to use the official logo and catch line of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year and information of endorsed events will be listed on the official event calendar of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year.
