Conversation between Prime Minister Kan and Premier Wen Jiabao (Overview)

Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, had a conversation with Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China for approximately 10 minutes around 12:00 noon on October 30 (Japan Standard Time) at a leaders' waiting room before the start of the East Asia Summit (EAS) held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The overview of the conversation is as follows:
- The two leaders shared the view that it was extremely regrettable that a bilateral summit meeting did not take place on this occasion.
- The two leaders reaffirmed their intention to revive exchanges at the private-sector level as agreed during the conversation they had in Brussels.
- The two leaders agreed to continue promoting the "Mutually Beneficial Relationship based on Common Strategic Interests."
- The two leaders concurred in having an opportunity for in-depth talks in the future.
