Recent Trends
From September to December 1994, Japan envoyed about 400 self-defense personnels for humanitarian assistance to Rwandan refugees in Goma (former Zaire). Japan has been supporting the Rwanda's efforts toward the reconstruction of the country. Since 1994, Japan's humanitarian assistance to the countries in the Great Lakes region amounts in total to more than 270 million dollars.
Since 2004, Japan dispatches a Japanese ODA advisor to Kigali to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation relationship. In January 2005, Japan and Rwanda concluded the Agreement on Technical Cooperation.
