Japan-Liberia Foreign Ministerial Talks

Today, Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held talks with Mr. George Wallace, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, for about 30 minutes from 16:30 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Wallace came to Japan accompanying Ms. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of Liberia, now visiting this country.
- At the Foreign Ministerial Talks, Mr. Wallace, on behalf of the people of Liberia, expressed appreciation for the assistance extended so far by the Government of Japan through international organizations and also for the activities of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers before the internal conflict erupted. Mr. Wallace also expressed expectations for investments from Japan in Liberia in the future.
- Mr. Aso, in response, pointed out the importance of security and political stability for investment, the importance of education from Japanese experience, and the importance of a bureaucratic structure to promote more efficient administration, with which Mr. Wallace agreed.
- Both Foreign Ministers agreed on the importance of TICAD IV, and their meeting ended by confirming that they would see each other again at the reception on the next day.
