Recent Trends
- Political, Diplomatic and Economic Scene: There has been sporadic dissident activity, especially in the northern region of Tibesti, while the government has continued to seek to play down this rebel activity. Relations with France remain difficult, but ties with Libya have improved. A World Bank decision on funding for an oil pipeline is pending because of environmental problems, future transparent management of oil revenue, etc.
- Others: Since August 1996, the Embassy of Japan in Yound, the Republic of Cameroon has been in charge of Chadian affairs. There is no Embassy of the Republic of Chad in Japan, but the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Chad is in Osaka.
