Message of Condolence by Foreign Minister Taro Kono Following the Terrorist Attacks in Surabaya, Indonesia

  1. On May 14, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, conveyed the following message of condolence to H.E. Ms. Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, following the bombings that occurred in Surabaya, Indonesia on May 13.

    “I feel great shock and anger at the news that explosions caused by bombs occurred at multiple locations in Surabaya, Indonesia on the morning of May 13 and led to a large number of casualties. Such inhuman acts of terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan firmly condemns them.
    I express my sincere condolences to those who lost their lives and to their bereaved families, and extend my sympathies to those who were injured. Japan expresses its solidarity with Minister Retno and the Government of Indonesia, and the people of Indonesia.”
