  1. The Visit to Japan by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania
  2. Deputy Press Secretary Ms. Naoko Saiki: Good afternoon. I would like to begin with several announcements.

    Ms. Saiki: First, on the visit to Japan by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania. From Sunday 19 February to Thursday 23 February, Mr. Andrius Kubilius, Prime Minister of Lithuania, will visit Japan. While in Japan, Prime Minster Kubilius is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda for an exchange of opinions on matters such as the Japan-Lithuania bilateral relationship and international issues.

  3. The Visit to Japan by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique
  4. Ms. Saiki: Second, on the visit to Japan by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique. From Monday 20 February to Friday 24 February, Mr. Aires Bonifacio Baptista Ali, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique, will pay an official working visit to Japan. During his stay in Japan, Prime Minister Ali will meet with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and attend a working dinner hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Koichiro Gemba. In addition, Prime Minister Ali is also planned to have an exchange of opinions with members of government institutions, private enterprises, and others.

  5. The Visit to Japan by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the State of Israel
  6. Ms. Saiki: Third, on the visit to Japan by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the State of Israel. Mr. Ehud Barak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Israel, is visiting Japan from Wednesday 15 February to Sunday 19 February. Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Barak paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. Minister for Foreign Affairs Koichiro Gemba is going to hold a meeting with Mr. Barak this evening and Minister for Defense Naoki Tanaka as well.

  7. The Visit to Japan by the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
  8. Ms. Saiki: Fourth, on the visit to Japan by Director-General of UNESCO. Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has been visiting Japan since Sunday 12 February. On 13 February, Director-General Bokova attended the hand-over ceremony of the UNESCO World Heritage Certificate to Hiraizumi in Hiraizumi, Iwate and the "Launching Ceremony of the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention in Japan" in Ichinoseki, Iwate. She visited a district affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on the following day. She is going to pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Gemba this evening.

  9. The Inauguration of a New Administration in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  10. Ms. Saiki: Fifth, on the inauguration of a new administration in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Japan welcomes the inauguration of the new Council of Ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the election of former Minister for Finance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Vjekoslav Bevanda as Chairman of the Council of Ministers on Friday 10 February. Japan, based on the belief that unity and sovereignty in territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the key to peace and stability in the Western Balkans, will continue to support the initiatives of the country and will cooperate with the new administration in order to further develop bilateral relations.

  11. The Fifth International MANGA Award
  12. Ms. Saiki: Sixth, on the Fifth International MANGA Award. On Tuesday 14 February, the International MANGA Award Executive Committee, chaired by Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba, selected 14 award winners, including one Gold Award winner and three Silver Award winners. A ceremony will be held in Tokyo on Friday 17 February.

  13. A Symposium "Dialogue with Global Negotiators: the Future of Climate Change Regime and Environmental Issues - Towards COP18 and Rio+20"
  14. Ms. Saiki: Seventh, regarding an international symposium on Dialogue with Global Negotiators: the Future of Climate Change Regime and Environmental Issues - Towards COP18 and Rio+20. Climate change negotiators around the world will meet in Tokyo to discuss the outcomes of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 17th Conference of the Parties, the so-called COP17, in Durban, South Africa, and issues beyond. The international symposium is going to be co-organized by the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies and the Japan Institute of International Affairs, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and others, on Saturday 3 March in Tokyo. That program has been distributed to you for reference.
