Press Conference 20 July 2004
- Questions concerning Six-Party Talks
Press Secretary Hatsuhisa Takashima: Good afternoon and thank you very much for coming to the briefing. Today, I have no announcements to make.
Q: The six countries are in talks about holding the next round of working-level meetings for the Six-Party Talks, possibly later this month or next month. Some officials from the six countries said last week that the countries may have the next round of working-level talks in July or possibly August. Do you have any information?
Mr. Takashima: No date has been set for the next round of working-level meetings for the Six-Party Talks on North Korea's nuclear issue. It has been decided that the next round of Six-Party Talks will be held by the end of September. Therefore, there will be one or two working-level meetings before then, but so far, no date has been set. All parties are still in contact with each other to set up the date, but nothing has been finalized yet.
Q: Does the Government of Japan believe it is possible to hold the next round of working-level meetings for the Six-Party Talks by the end of this month?
Mr. Takashima: It is possible, but there is no such indication.
