  1. Donation for election surveillance to Organization of American States (OAS)

Press Secretary Hatsuhisa Takashima: Good afternoon. Today I have one announcement I would like to make.

The Government of Japan today decided to make a donation of US$90,000.00 to the Organization of American States (OAS) for the cost of election surveillance activities in the Republic of Guatemala.

The presidential and general elections to be held on 3 October and 9 November are very important steps to consolidate the process of peace and democratization in this Latin American country.

In addition to this financial contribution, that had been requested by OAS, the Government of Japan is considering dispatching election surveillance personnel of its own to Guatemala.
