Press Conference by the Press Secretary
25 October 1996
- Seminar hosted by the Japan Institute of International Studies
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ken Shimanouchi: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the regular press briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I have no announcements today. I will be delighted to respond to any questions that you might have.
- Seminar hosted by the Japan Institute of International Studies
Q: About the seminar currently held in Tokyo to discuss China's membership in the WTO, has the seminar already ended today?
A: According to the agenda I have here, it started yesterday and it was supposed to have ended this morning.
Q: Do you know anything about the latest developments from this seminar?
A: I understand that this was a free discussion. It was a closed session. It was hosted by the Japan Institute of International Studies. Thirty government officials, representatives of academia, and private sector people participated from a number of countries. They participated not in their official capacities, but capacities as individuals. From what I am told, the purpose of the seminar was to enhance mutual understanding between the People's Republic of China on the one hand, and the WTO members on the other hand. I do not have a summary of what was discussed in the seminar. So, that is all I can tell you at this moment.
Q: Is it possible to get a summary of it later on?
A: I will have to check and get back to you. Thank you very much.
