Issue of Chinese-made Dumplings

Q: Several Japanese people became sick, including a child who fell into a coma, after eating Chinese-made dumplings contaminated with insecticide. What is Japan's position on this issue?

A: Food safety is an important issue which directly affects human health. We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the problem, and measures to prevent future recurrence should be taken immediately. At the same time, this issue should be dealt with cautiously until the cause is determined. The Government of Japan is acting in full cooperation with the Chinese side to resolve this issue.

Q: Can you confirm the reports that mutual assistance in investigation between Japan and China will begin in earnest?

A: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will immediately offer necessary cooperation through diplomatic channels if the investigating authorities of the two countries decide to conduct mutual assistance in investigation with one another for the purpose of providing evidence.
