  1. On Thursday, March 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will host the International Symposium on Domestic Measures to Implement the Obligations under the Nagoya Protocol at the United Nations University jointly with the Institute for Sustainability and Peace, United Nations University (UNU-ISP). Details of the symposium are in the accompanying sheet.

  2. Government officials and experts from various countries will participate in the symposium on the basis of the common idea that in order for an international framework concerning access to genetic resources and sharing of benefits arising from their utilization (ABS) to function as effectively and early as possible, it is important to facilitate internationally common understanding on domestic measures for implementation of the Protocol. The participants will share information regarding advanced approaches to structuring and implementing domestic measures in each country, and discuss issues necessary for domestic measures as well as points to note for consideration of such measures.
