  1. H.E. Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, will visit Japan from Sunday, February 12 to Friday, 17 as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  2. On February 13, 2012, Director-General Bokova will attend the handover ceremony of the UNESCO World Heritage Certificate to Hiraizumi in Hiraizumi, Iwate, and "Launching Ceremony of the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention in Japan" in Ichinoseki, Iwate. She will give a lecture at Tohoku University, and will visit a district affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on February 14, 2012.

  3. She will have various meetings with Japanese high-ranked government officials and others in Tokyo. She is also scheduled to hold a lecture at the Japan Consortium for International Cooperation in Cultural Heritage (JCIC-Heritage), and to attend the "Japan-UNESCO/UNU Symposium: Tsunami Warning Systems: Policy Perspectives" to be held at United Nations University Headquarters in Tokyo.

  4. It is expected that Director-General Bokova's visit to Japan will further deepen the cooperative relationship between Japan and UNESCO.
