Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, to Attend ASEAN-related Meetings of Foreign Ministers, etc.

  1. Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Hanoi, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, from July 21 (Wed) to 24 (Sat), attending the following ASEAN-related foreign ministers’ meetings and bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of participating countries on the first three days, July 21 (Wed) to 23 (Fri).

    (1) At the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the participating ministers will exchange views on the current state and future direction of cooperation among the ASEAN+3 states and other related issues.

    (2) At the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Informal Consultations, the participating ministers will exchange views on the current state and future direction of the EAS, regional and international issues, and other related issues.

    (3) At the Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the participating ministers will exchange views on progress and future direction of Mekong-Japan cooperation and other related issues.

    (4) At the Japan-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the participating ministers will exchange views on the support for ASEAN’s integration, the strengthening of Japan-ASEAN relations and other related issues.

    (5) At the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting, the participating ministers will exchange views on political and security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

  2. After attending the above ASEAN-related foreign ministers’ meetings, Minister Okada will make bilateral visits to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from the evening of July 23 (Fri) to 25 (Sun). He will have bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of the two countries with H.E. Dr. Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Viet Nam, and with H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Laos. Minister Okada will also pay courtesy calls on VIPs, visit economic cooperation project sites and conduct other official duties during his stay in the two countries.
