  1. Ms. Chinami Nishimura, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, will attend the 66th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to be held in the Republic of Korea (Incheon) as the head of the Japanese delegation on May 17 (Mon) and 18 (Tue).

  2. Ministerial representatives from the sixty-two ESCAP member countries and regions are expected to attend the Session and will discuss initiatives undertaken by various countries towards the achievement of the MDGs under the theme of “Addressing challenges in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”.

(1) ESCAP is one of the Regional Commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Its predecessor was the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE), which was established in 1947 for cooperation on economic and social development in the Asia Pacific region.

(2) ESCAP Sessions are held once a year. The 2010 Session is being held from May 13 (Thu) to 19 (Wed).
