Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee

  1. The 23rd Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee will be held in Tokyo on March 2 (Tue).

  2. This dialogue has been held basically once a year since 1977 to exchange views on such issues as economic relations between Japan and Canada and the international economic issues in which the two countries have a common interest.

  3. The dialogue will be chaired on the Japanese side by Mr. Yoichi Otabe, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and attended by those officials concerned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and chaired on the Canadian side, by Mr. Louis Lévesque, Deputy Minister of International Trade, and attended by those officials concerned from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo.

  4. In light of the fact that Japan serves as APEC chair and Canada serves as G8/G20 chair, the committee will exchange views on such issues as economic relations between Japan and Canada and the international economic issues in the two countries have a common interest.
