Visit to Japan of His Excellency Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President of the Republic of the Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan

  1. H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President of the Republic of the Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, will pay a working visit to Japan from February 8 (Mon) to 11 (Thu).

  2. During his stay, First Vice President Salva Kiir will hold a meeting with Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan.

  3. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the North and South Sudan was concluded in 2005 after the civil war which lasted for more than 20 years. Based on the CPA, preparations of the general elections in April and a referendum for the people of South Sudan in January 2011 are underway in Sudan. First Vice President Salva Kiir is expected to exchange views with Japanese VIPs on the situations in Sudan, development of the relationship with Japan and other issues.
