  1. A group of teachers from Indonesian Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) will visit Japan from October 13 (Wed) to 23 (Sat) as guests of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

  2. The group will visit schools in Tokyo and the Kansai area, and also experience a wide range of activities such as visit to Todaiji Temple, exchanging views with experts and college students, a home-stay program, traditional Japanese cultural programs, industrial firm visit and visiting disaster management institutions.

  3. This invitation of Pesantren teachers, who are local opinion leaders throughout Indonesia, aims at enhancing educational exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Indonesia. It also intends to contribute not only to raising the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools, which constitute an important part in the educational system of Indonesia, but also to encourage the development of moderate Islam communities.

  4. This program has been conducted annually since 2004.  Since then we have received positive comments from participants such that they have utilized their experiences at each local Pesantren back home, and also increased their senses of affinity to Japan.
