First Japan-Cambodia Joint Committee Meeting under the Agreement between Japan and the Kingdom of Cambodia for the Liberalization, Promotion and Protection of Investment, and Japan-Cambodia Public and Private Sector Joint Meeting

1. The First Japan-Cambodia Joint Committee Meeting under the Agreement between
Japan and the Kingdom of Cambodia for the Liberalization, Promotion and Protection
of Investment was held in Phnom Penh on August 11th (Tuesday), 2009.
2. In the meeting, both sides shared recognition that investments of private
sectors will play a key role in enhancing bilateral relationship, and discussed
the implementation and operation of the provisions of the Agreement. Both sides
confirmed that they continue to work closely to further facilitate the implementation
and operation of the Agreement for the purpose of promoting Japanese investments
to Cambodia, as well as Cambodian investments to Japan. Cambodian side demonstrated
strong commitment, by informing Japanese side the progress of legislative development
having been made, to realize favorable investment environment in Cambodia.
3. Just before the Joint Committee Meeting, the first Japan-Cambodia Public
and Private Sector Joint Meeting was held with the participation of representatives
of Japanese private companies, as a forum to discuss the promotion of investment
from Japan to Cambodia. Both sides held frank exchange of views to improve the
investment environment. Ad-hoc meeting between both sides to settle any matter
related to Japanese investments can be convened.
4. The next Joint Committee Meeting would be held at the appropriate time which is convenient for both sides.
