- The 13th meeting of the Japanese-Austrian Committee for the 21st Century
will be held on July 21 (Tue) and 22 (Wed) in the city of Gifu, which has
a sister affiliation with Meidling District, Vienna.

The members of the Austrian side are the following:
*Mr. Max Kothbauer, Österreichische Nationalbank Vice President (chairman of the Austrian side)

*Mr. Stefan Schleicher, Professor of Economics and Political Economy at the University of Graz, Austria

- At the meeting on July 21 (Tue), the members will discuss the topic,
‘The current financial and economic crisis: its consequences and global
responses.’ Concerning the current worldwide financial crisis, under the
topic, the efforts of both Japan and Austria will be introduced, and prospects
and desirable countermeasures will be discussed.
At the public symposium on July 22 (Wed), the members will discuss the topic, ‘Environment Issues– from the perspective of Japan and Austria.’ Participants from the general public will also join the discussion and opinions concerning environmental policies and environmental education will be exchanged.

The Japanese-Austrian Committee
for the 21st Century was established in regard with the agreement made at the
Foreign Ministers’ meeting in 1990, with the aim to vitalize the exchanges
between the two countries in various fields, to further promote the mutual understandings,
and to seek ways to strengthen the close relations of the two countries. The
first meeting was held in 1994, and until now, 12 meetings have been held.
