Dispatch of Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan to Sri Lanka

- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch Mr. Yasushi Akashi,
Representative of the Government of Japan for Peace-Building, Rehabilitation
and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka, to Sri Lanka, from June 28th to July 1st,
which now started its serious efforts toward national reconstruction, following
the end of the conflict in May this year.
- During his stay in Sri Lanka, Mr. Akashi will meet with government officials
and others and call for assistance to and resettlement of internally-displaced
persons as well as swift progress of political processes for national reconciliation.
Mr. Akashi will also make a speech on Japan’s efforts for peace in Sri
Lanka at the Economic Summit in Sri Lanka.
- For Mr. Akashi, this will be the 19th visit to Sri Lanka, the second one after the end of the conflict.
