- The first round of negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Agreement
between Japan and Colombia will be held from April 21 (Tuesday) to April
24 (Friday) in Tokyo.
- The meeting will be attended by Mr. Masahiro Takasugi, Director of the
South America Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and other officials
from MOFA and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan;
and Mr. Jose Antonio Rivas, Director of Investment, Ministry of Foreign
Trade, and other officials from relevant ministries in Colombia.
- At the meeting, the two sides will exchange views on the basic approach to the agreement and discuss the content of the agreement, with the aim of concluding negotiations at an early stage.

During his visit to Colombia in November 2008, Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held talks with Mr. Jaime Bermúdez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, and the two sides agreed to initiate negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Agreement.
