Asian Journalists Symposium 2009

- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host “Asian Journalists Symposium
2009” on March 18 (Wed), under the theme of “Development of Fundamental
Values and Journalism - Past, Present and Future, Achievements and Prospects
of the Media-” at the United Nations University.
- While the Asian countries, accounting for three-fifths of the world
population, are at a variety of stages in the development of democracy,
the sharing of such “fundamental values” as freedom, democracy, basic
human rights and the rule of law is steadily in progress. Journalism
in these countries has played an extremely important role in such process
of sharing of the fundamental values.
- This symposium is participated in by journalists from India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and Japan to have a frank exchange of opinions. Dr. Isami Takeda, Professor of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Dokkyo University, will deliver a keynote speech.
