Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Koffi Esaw, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Togo

- H.E. Mr. Koffi Esaw, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration
of the Republic of Togo, will visit Japan from February 23 (Mon) to 27 (Fri),
2009 under the Opinion Leader Invitation Program.
- During his stay in Japan, Mr. Esaw will have a meeting with Mr. Hirofumi
Nakasone, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and will exchange views
with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
and the Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation). The main purpose
of his trip is to prepare for the visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Faure Gnassinbe,
the President of the Republic of Togo, which is scheduled in this year.
The visit is also expected to strengthen friendship between the Republic
of Togo and Japan.
- The Republic of Togo has been making efforts for the nation’s reconstruction after the political crisis that lasted about 15 years. Taking the opportunity of Mr. Esaw’s visit, Mr. Nakasone intends to convey the message that Japan welcomes consolidation of democracy in the Republic of Togo and will support the reconstruction of the country by implementing assistance measures announced at the Fourth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD IV). The foreign ministers will also exchange views on cooperation in the international arena.
