Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr Ali Hassan Bahdon, Minister of Equipment and Transportation of the Republic of Djibouti

  1. H.E. Mr Ali Hassan Bahdon, Minister of Equipment and Transportation of the Republic of Djibouti, is visiting Japan from 12 December (Sat) to 19 December (Sat) as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his visit, H.E. Mr Bahdon had talks with government executives including Mr Koichi Takemasa, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ms Kiyomi Tsujimoto, State Secretary for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Mr Kazuya Shimba, State Secretary for Defense and Mr Hisayasu Suzuki, Commandant of Japan Coast Guard.


  2. During the meeting with Mr Bahdon, Mr Takemasa expressed gratitude for Djibouti’s cooperation in Japan’s activities against the piracy in the Gulf of Aden performed by Japan Self Defense Force’s destroyers and patrol aircrafts. Mr Bahdon welcomed the fact that the Japan-Djibouti relationship has been rapidly deepening thanks to Japan Self Defense Force’s activities in Djibouti. Mr Bahdon also pointed out that, for the solution of piracy, the stability and reconstruction in Somalia along with the improvement of coast guarding capability of the Somali coast countries have vital importance, and expressed his expectation for Japan’s cooperation in such areas.


  3. Both sides concurred on further enhancing the bilateral relations in broader fields, including economic cooperation and mutual visit of high-rank government officials.
