Visit to Japan by H.E. Dr. Michael Spindelegger, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria

- H.E. Dr. Michael Spindelegger, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Austria, will visit Japan from January 23 (Fri) to 25 (Sun).
- During his stay in Japan, Dr. Spindelegger will have a meeting with
Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and will exchange
views on bilateral relations and the international situation. Japan
and Austria will both serve as non-permanent members of the United Nations
Security Council for two years from this year. At the meeting, both
Ministers are expected to exchange views on the cooperation between the
two countries at the UN Security Council.
- The year 2009 is the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria, and Dr. Spindelegger’s visit marks the opening of the Japan-Austria Year 2009. It is expected that his visit and various commemorative events scheduled to be held throughout this year will further develop the relations between the two countries.
