Visit to Japan by young officers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China

  1. A group of 15 young officers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China will visit Japan from September 10 (Wed) to September 14(Sun) at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
     
  2. This invitation, which is based on the agreement reached in the Japan-China summit talks held when Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda visited China last December and also held when Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China, visited Japan in May this year, aims to enhance mutual understanding between the defense authorities of both countries and to deepen understanding of each other’s country through mutual visits by young officers of the PLA and the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
     
  3. The group, which is made up mainly of young company-grade officers, is expected to deepen mutual understanding through exchanges with young officers of the Japan Self-Defense Forces and others, to know about Japanese society better through visits to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Japanese companies, meetings with intellectuals in the private sector and cultural figures, and the like, and to contribute to boosting future friendship and cooperation between Japan and China.
