The First Meeting of Japan-ASEAN Eminent Persons Group

- The First Meeting of Japan-ASEAN Eminent Persons Group will be held in Tokyo on March 18 (Tue).
- The establishment of the Eminent Persons Group was agreed at the 10th ASEAN-Japan Summit held in Cebu, Philippines in January last year. In November of the same year at the 11th ASEAN-Japan Summit, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and the leaders of the ASEAN countries agreed to start up the meeting quickly.
- The aim of the Eminent Persons Group is to offer concrete recommendations from a wide point of view, to further deepen future cooperation between Japan and ASEAN and to broaden the strategic partnership between Japan and ASEAN.
- After the First Meeting in Japan, the Second and the Third Meetings will be held in the ASEAN countries. At the next ASEAN-Japan Summit meeting to be held in Thailand at the end of this year, recommendations will be presented to the leaders.
