Visit to Japan by His Excellency Mr. Anote Tong, President of the Republic of Kiribati, and Mrs. Tong

His Excellency Mr. Anote Tong, President and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Republic of Kiribati, and Mrs. Tong, will pay a working visit to Japan from January 31 (Wed) to February 5 (Mon), 2007.
During their stay in Japan, the President and the First lady of the Republic of Kiribati will be received in audience by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan. President Tong will also hold a meeting with Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Katsuhito Asano, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, to exchange views on ways to strengthen Japan-Kiribati bilateral relations and regional cooperation upon the outcome of the Fourth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 4) which was held last May.
President Tong visited Japan last May to attend the PALM 4 after frequent visits to Japan as Minister for Natural Resources Development, and is known to be familiar with and friendly toward Japan.
