Dr. Kiyohiko Toyama, Vice-Minister (Parliamentary) for Foreign Affairs, to Attend the G8 Energy Ministerial Meeting

  1. On March 15 (Wed) and 16 (Thu), Dr. Kiyohiko Toyama, Vice-Minister (Parliamentary) for Foreign Affairs, will attend the G8 Energy Ministerial Meeting to be held in Moscow.
  2. The Meeting, hosted by Mr. Viktor Borisovich Khristenko, Minister of Industry and Energy of Russia, chair country of this year's G8 Summit Meeting, will be attended on the Japanese side by Dr. Kiyohiko Toyama, and Mr. Akira Nishino, Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and from other G8 member states, ministers in charge of energy issues will participate.

    In addition to representatives from G8 members, ministers in charge of energy issues from China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa; and delegates from the World Bank, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the International Energy Forum (IEF) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will also be invited to the Meeting.
  3. In preparation for the G8 Summit Meeting, which will be held in St. Petersburg and hosted for the first time by Russia, the upcoming Meeting will feature an exchange of views on such issues as challenges to global energy security, promotion of market efficiency and enhancing sustainability of the world energy system, areas in which G8 members can cooperate to stabilize the international energy market.
