Seminar Series to Understand the Middle East

  1. A seminar in the series to understand the Middle East, co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Japan Foundation, the Yamaguchi Prefectural Chapter of the United Nations Association of Japan and the Yamaguchi International Exchange Association will be held on February 11 (Sat.) at the New Media Plaza Yamaguchi, in cooperation with the Middle East Research Institute of Japan.
  2. At the seminar, H. E. Mrs. Solmaz Unaydin, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Japan and Professor Masato Iizuka of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies will give lectures, followed by question and answer sessions and discussion with the audience.
  3. The situation and other factors in the Middle East have heightened public interest in Japan toward the Middle Eastern countries. In order to foster the relationship between Japan and the Middle Eastern and Islamic countries based on mutual understanding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been conducting a seminar series to understand the Middle Eastern and Islamic countries mainly in regional cities of Japan. It is also expected that through such occasions, interchanges between the local people and students from Middle Eastern and Islamic countries studying in the cities will be further promoted.

* The seminar series took place in Okayama on May 28, in Yamagata on July 25, in Osaka on September 27 and in Hokkaido on November 29 in 2004 and in Hiroshima on February 6, in Miyagi on July 5, and in Saitama on November 25 in last year. The upcoming event will be the eighth seminar of this series.
