Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan, to Attend Extraordinary Meeting of Co-chairs of the Tokyo Donors Conference

- Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan on Peace Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sri Lanka, will visit the U.S. from November 20 (Mon) to 23 (Thu) to attend the Meeting of the Four Co-chairs of the Tokyo Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka to be held on November 20 (Mon) and 21 (Tue) in Washington, D.C.
- Attending the meeting will be Mr. Akashi of Japan, Mr. R. Nicholas Burns, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Department of State, Mr. Erik Solheim, Minister of Development Cooperation of Norway, and Mr. Herve Jouanjean, Deputy Director-General, EU Commission for External Relations.
- The Co-chairs' meeting is regularly held among the four countries and organizations that co-chaired the Tokyo Conference in June 2003 to exchange views on the progress of the peace process of Sri Lanka and discuss international assistance. At the forthcoming meeting, the co-chairs will exchange views on the prospects for the peace process in Sri Lanka, taking into account the seriousness of the situation.
- This meeting will be the tenth of its kind, following the one held in Brussels in September this year.
