Meeting of the Ambassador, Consuls-General of Japan and Japanese American Leaders
November 4, 2005
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a meeting of the Ambassador and Consuls-General of Japan in the U.S. and Japanese American leaders on November 6 (Sun) and 7 (Mon) in San Francisco.
- The meeting will be attended on the U.S. side by Mr. Daniel K. Inouye, U.S. Senator, and about 20 Japanese American community leaders from 10 regions of the U.S.; and on the Japanese side by Mr. Ryozo Kato, Japanese Ambassador to the U.S., and Consuls-General and other officials of nine consulates in the U.S., and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tomohiko Taniguchi, Deputy Director-General, Public Diplomacy Department, and officials concerned of the Department and the North American Affairs Bureau. Relevant officials of the Japan Foundation's Center for Global Partnership will also attend the meeting.
- The meeting will exchange views on the task of strengthening the bonds between Japanese American communities and Japan and discuss the direction and a concrete action plan for establishing a network connecting Japanese Americans and Japanese.
- As the sentiments and interests among Japanese Americans toward Japan have been tending to weaken, at the meeting, third- and fourth-generation Japanese Americans, core members of American society, will have a frank exchange of views with the heads of Japanese diplomatic establishments in the U.S. to strengthen present and future relations between Japanese Americans and Japanese, and Japan-U.S. relations in general. The meeting, the third of its kind, is highly significant for both Japanese Americans and Japan.
