Mr. Masaharu Kohno, Director-General for Sub-Saharan African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to Attend the Signing Ceremony of the North-South Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan

  1. Mr. Masaharu Kohno, Director-General for Sub-Saharan African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also Personal Representative of the Prime Minister for Africa, will attend the signing ceremony of the North-South Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on January 9 (Sun).

  2. At the signing ceremony hosted by Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya, the Government of Sudan in the northern part of the country and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), a rebel group in the south, will sign a Comprehensive Peace Agreement to put an end to the North-South civil war in Sudan, one of the longest conflicts in Africa which lasted more than 20 years. Leaders of other African countries are also expected to attend the ceremony.
