H.E. Amb. Said Djinnit, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union (AU), to Visit Japan

- Amb. Said Djinnit, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union (AU), will be visiting Japan from September 3 (Fri) to 9 (Thu) at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During his stay in Japan, Amb. Djinnit will hold talks with top Japanese officials including H.E. Masatoshi Abe, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Sadako Ogata, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and will exchange views on wide-ranging subjects: conflict issues in Africa such as the Darfur issue in the Sudan, and measures to strengthen Japan-Africa and Japan-AU relations.
- Amb. Djinnit's visit is expected to expedite Japan-AU consultation on future cooperation policy on such items as the consolidation of peace in Africa, a priority sphere in the process of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), the axis of Japan's policy toward Africa, and to work toward establishing a foundation for strengthening the general relationship between Japan and AU.
