Holding of High-Level Japan-U.S. Government-to-Government Consultations on Climate Change

  1. High-Level Japan-U.S. Government-to-Government Consultations on Climate Change will be held on July 13, 2001 in Washington, D.C., as was agreed at the latest Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting.

  2. The Consultations will be attended on the Japanese side by Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister of the Environment, Mr. Kazuo Asakai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for International Economic Affairs/Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hidehiro Konno, Vice Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and on the U.S. side by Ms. Christie Whitman, Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Robert Glenn Hubbard, Chairman, Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), Ms. Paula Dobriansky, Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs.

  3. The Consultations are to be held on the basis of the discussions on the Kyoto Protocol in the two leaders' meeting, and according to the agreement as shown in their communiqué.

  4. The Consultations will be held to enable both countries to explore common ground and areas for common action on climate change.
