Visit to Japan by the Hon. Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

1. The Hon. Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will visit Japan from March 20 (Tue) to 23 (Fri) as Guest of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

2. During his stay in Japan, Mr. Tung will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, hold talks with Mr. Yohei Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and attend a dinner hosted by the Foreign Minister. Mr. Tung will also meet with leading figures of the Government of Japan, including Mr. Takeo Hiranuma, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and Mr. Taro Aso, State Minister in charge of Information and Communication Technology (IT), to exchange views on the situation in Hong Kong and Japan-Hong Kong relations.

3. This will be Mr. Tung's second visit to Japan. He last visited Japan in October 1997 immediately after the reversion of Hong Kong to China's sovereignty.
