Seminar on Energy Security in Asia -Asia's Energy Security Challenges in the 21st Century- on March 6, 2001 at Tokyo, Japan

1. Objectives of the Seminar

   The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the above seminar, inviting Dr. Daniel Yergin, Chairman of the Cambridge Energy Research Associates and the author of The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power as well as The Commanding Heights, as the guest speaker to address "Energy in the 21st Century." The seminar intends to foster deeper understanding of the energy situation in Asia and to consider ways and means of enhancing Asia's intra-regional and inter-regional cooperation in the energy sector with a view to strengthening the energy security in Asia. Speakers from various countries and organizations will address dimensions of the risks concerning the supply of energy resources, particularly oil, and of their economic and social impacts. This seminar is open to the press. Pre-registration is requested.
