Yangon Workshop on Japan-Myanmar Cooperation for Structural Adjustment of the Myanmar Economy

  1. The Workshop on Japan-Myanmar Cooperation for Structural Adjustment of the Myanmar Economy will be held on 23rd and 24th November in Yangon. It is cosponsored by the Government of Japan and the Government of Myanmar.

  2. The participants will be as follows:
    Myanmar side: a) Government officials headed by H.E. Brig.-Gen. D.O. Abel, Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
    b) Experts from various fields of academia and the economic sector
    Japan side: a) Government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Mr. Masashi Namekawa, Deputy Director-General, Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
    b) Experts from various fields of academia and the economic sector

  3. The participants in the workshop will exchange views on reforming the Myanmar economy, based on surveys conducted in four fields: Fiscal and Monetary Policy; Trade and Industrial Policy; Information Technology; and Agriculture and Rural Development.

  4. This workshop is held as part of the Japanese assistance on Structural Adjustment of the Myanmar Economy, which aims to formulate policy recommendations through the joint work of specialists from both countries in order to contribute to human resource development and economic reforms.

  5. This is the third workshop, following the first and second respectively held in Yangon and Tokyo. Another workshop will be held to discuss the contents of policy recommendations.
