The Japan-Philippines Working Group Meeting on Prevention of Recurrence of Illegal Traffic in Waste

- The Japan-Philippines Working Group Meeting on Prevention of the Recurrence of Illegal Traffic in Waste will be held in Manila on March 13 (Mon).
- The meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Masafumi Ishii, Director of the Second Southeast Asia Division, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Japan's chairperson for the meeting, and by officials from the Environment Agency, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry; and on the Philippines side by Ms. Bernarditas Muller, Director of the Office of United Nations & International Organization, Department of Foreign Affairs, as the Philippines' chairperson for the meeting, and officials from the relevant government agencies.
- At the meeting, the participants are expected to exchange views on the present situation concerning waste disposal and other issues in both Japan and the Philippines, and measures to prevent a recurrence of illegal traffic in wastes.
- Japan and the Philippines have agreed to hold this meeting at a high-level liaison coordination meeting, which was established between the two countries for the purpose of quickly resolving a case of illegal traffic in wastes to the Philippines, with a view to preventing a recurrence of such a case.
