Subsequently, Minister Kishida stated that he had learned that the Nippon Foundation had built up a strong sense of trust with both the Government of Myanmar and ethnic minorities in Myanmar through school construction projects, medicinal delivery projects, projects for the training of public officers, etc., over many years, and requested the continued contribution of the Nippon Foundation for the development of Myanmar, including support for regions with Myanmar’s ethnic minorities.
- In response to the above, Special Envoy Sasakawa stated that while reconciliation between the government and armed groups of ethnic minorities has been a problem in Myanmar for over 60 years, there is hope for a solution to the ethnic minority issues in Myanmar as the government, ethnic minorities and opposition parties share a common wish for national unification.<.li>
