Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Presidential Election in Armenia

- The Government of Japan welcomes the fact that the presidential election of the Republic of Armenia, held on February 18, was conducted in a peaceful and democratic manner, and congratulates H.E. Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, the incumbent President of the Republic of Armenia, on being elected.
- International election observation missions including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) / Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) issued a positive evaluation stating that the election was generally well-administered and was characterized by a respect for fundamental freedoms. The Japanese observer dispatched to the OSCE/ODIHR mission also reported that the election was held peacefully.
- The Government of Japan expects that under newly-elected President Sargsyan, all political forces will work together with a view to promoting the stability and development of the Republic of Armenia.
