Meeting between Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Kan Zaw, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

On February 19 from approximately 8:10 p.m., Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Dr. Kan Zaw, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, for approximately 40 minutes. An overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude for Minister Kan Zaw's participation in the Third Meeting of the Forum for the Promotion of Public-Private Cooperation in the Mekong Region, held earlier in the day and stated that both the public and private sectors of Japan would continue their strong support for Myanmar’s efforts for reform.
- In response to the above, Minister Kan Zaw stated that the Government of Myanmar had been making efforts for reform in the three fields of politics, economy, and governance and expressed his gratitude for Japan's support for these efforts, such as financial assistance and technical cooperation, including development of human resources from the Government of Japan.
- Moreover, both ministers shared the recognition that the public and private sectors of both countries would work together towards the opening of the Thilawa Special Economic Zone in 2015 and improving favorable investment conditions. In addition, both ministries also shared views on the acceleration of negotiation for early agreement of the bilateral Investment Agreement between the two countries.
